What happened?

MoneyGram has expanded MoneyGram Ramps to Solana, giving wallets, exchanges and developers on the network access to its global cash-in and cash-out infrastructure. The move extends the company’s stablecoin payments strategy and adds another bridge between digital assets and local currency.

Why it matters

MoneyGram has expanded its MoneyGram Ramps service to the Solana blockchain, allowing wallets, exchanges and developers building on Solana to connect users with the company’s global cash network. The service lets people move between cash and supported digital assets without each crypto app needing to build its own banking and retail payout connections.

The rollout matters because it gives Solana-based apps a broader physical entry and exit point for crypto users, especially in markets where cash remains central to everyday financial activity. According to the company, MoneyGram Ramps supports cash deposits in more than 25 countries and withdrawals across more than 170 countries and territories.

MoneyGram is positioning the service as part of a wider shift toward stablecoin-based payments and remittances. Payment firms, fintechs and banks have been testing dollar-pegged tokens as a way to move money across borders while reducing dependence on traditional correspondent banking chains.

The company has been building crypto connectivity for several years. In 2022, MoneyGram worked with the Stellar Development Foundation on a service that let users convert between cash and Circle’s USDC stablecoin through its retail network.

MoneyGram also launched MGUSD, its own dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Bridge on the Stellar network, in June. That same month, the company became a Solana validator, deepening its role in processing and securing transactions on the network.
