Why it matters

The appointment matters because it points to Ondo’s next phase in the tokenization market: moving from blockchain-based versions of individual assets into broader investment baskets and managed strategies. Ondo Finance has hired John Hoffman as managing director and head of product portfolios, according to CoinDesk. Hoffman, who previously worked at Grayscale Investments and spent nearly two decades at Invesco, will focus on building and distributing tokenized portfolios for the crypto-native asset platform.

CoinDesk reported that Hoffman’s role will include products developed with asset managers as well as strategies built around Ondo’s existing offerings.

Hoffman was most recently head of distribution and partnerships at Grayscale Investments, a firm known for digital asset funds. Before that, he worked at Invesco, where he led the company’s ETF and index strategies business in the Americas.

Ondo has already built a presence in tokenized real-world assets through products such as OUSG and USDY, which offer blockchain-based exposure to U.S. government debt and other yield-bearing assets. The company has also expanded into tokenized equities through Ondo Global Markets, which it says has passed $1 billion in total value locked across more than 250 stocks and ETFs.

The hire comes as tokenization continues to attract attention from both crypto markets and major financial institutions. CoinDesk cited RWA.xyz data showing tokenized assets have surpassed $30 billion, while firms including BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, Fidelity and JPMorgan have launched or tested tokenized products.
